The project involved the construction of a new Lidl Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Houghton Regis with a total floor space of 123,272m2. The main building includes storage and distributuion space, a tower to the southern end of the building, administration space, an employee canteen and plant room. There are 196 loading docks along the north, east and west elevations of the building. External buildings included cycle shelters, plant buildings, a drivers lounge,
a smoking shelter and four haulier cabins. A bridge link joins the car park to the RDC. The car park allows for 141 HGVs, 612 cars, 6 motor cycles and 104 cycle spaces.

Hennigans was employed to provide piling attendance for 27 weeks, install 629nr foundation bases, 4518m of dock base slabs and perimeter bases for pre-cast retaining walls, 5 Nr lift pit bases, 3 Nr stair bases and 2,263m of internal drainage. Externally we installed 10,465m of ducting including 77m of 9 hole multi-ducts and 106nr ducts; four of which were 2m x 2m x 2m chambers. Kerbs and topsoiling were undertaken as well a cycle shelter bases, plant and sprinkler bases, sub-station and transformer bases, Fuel tank, generator and GRP bases which included an insitu built trough linking these bases to the main RDC. The final S278 works included planning out and removing kerbs to enable the formation of a new bus stop, road crossings and 2 new entrances to the RDC.
